Starting plants..

I would like to put some plants in my 10 gallon tanks.. but I don't know what plants would be best or how to plant them.. I have mollies in the tanks, and the light is on for about 4-5 hours a day.. could anyone tell me what plants would be best and how to plant them?

i always say java moss and java fern. what kind of lights do you have? you should leave your lights on longer 8-10 hours.

Java moss, java fern,anubias, and most forms of crypts will grow in low light situations.

try some vals too.... they will spread and take over like grass but you have to increase the time the lights are on and/or increase wattage

ok.. well, they're like.. 15 watt bulbs.. so.. yeah.. I'll start turning them on before I go to school and turn em off when I get home.. they'll be on longer... How do I plant these plants though.. just bury the roots in the gravel?

java fern and moss can both be tied down to rocks or driftwood.

Is your hood fluorescent or incandescent? I would suggest you not try adding live plants with regular incandescent bulbs. Something like this: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=9870&N=2004+113346
would be better. I've used similar bulbs with live plants for years and have been pretty successful with a broad variety of plants.

what kind of lights? If it came in a kit its likly it wont work with plants, but you can replace it easily with a certain kind of lights from walmart
