steelerfan's 30 Gallon Breeder Journal/Build

Oh crud, my bad. I read your post as I was walking out the door. Could have swore it said trates. Sorry!

Glad you didn't go buy a $300 pair of picassos :)

thanks ace and greech,

yeah greech, saw your reply lastnight and figured you may be sippin on the ole cough syrup or something :-)

yes, shocking, steelerfan1 has to wait again/

ok,

nitrite at .25 and nitrate around 10-15.

it's looking like in the next few days i should be cycled with the qt.

my question is, now i will be watching for a fish on divers den, but in the mean time should i be adding anything to keep an ammonia source so i don't lose any bacteria?

also, my main tank did spawn some baby snails and they are all on my glass so i have not been scraping it because i am afraid to kill them, but i am starting to get some coraline growth there as well.

should i just use the mag float as normal and whatever will be will be?

hate to kill the little guys as they are the good guys.

Depends on how long it will be before you add fish. Couple weeks should not be a problem.

Wipe the snails off with your hand and then scrape/scrub your glass. Don't use the mag float. It will probably kill some snails but it also will likely cause scratches in your glass as the snails get trapped between the float and the glass.

ok, thanks bud.

You can use a razor or buy a metal scraper at your LFS, Petsmart, etc. The one I bought has a nice handle and the "blade" part has held up very well. I find that even after I use a pad or mag float, there is still a lot of crud left on the glass that I see floating off after I scrape the glass. Mine is similar to this...

Been watching the DD alerts and haven't seen any of the blennies you have mentioned. They'll pop up soon I'm sure.

And before I forget, I read somewhere not too long ago that while the orange spot blenny does eat algae it may also nip at corals and clams. I might suspect the blenny is grazing on alage near the coral or on the clam shell but what I read didn't make it sound like the OS blenny is 100% reef/coral safe. Might want to look into that before you pull the trigger.

i have only seen an amber blenny once on dd so i doubt i can wait for 1 of those, so will hope for the redspotted 1 soon.

i will roll the dice as i don't plan on too many corals....riiiight that's what they all say :-)
