steelerfan's 30 Gallon Breeder Journal/Build

If your feeding your tank anything that breaks up into smaller particles the crab will find what it wants. Be careful feeding too much cyclopeeze though.

Webs could be vermitid snail. They live in tubes and throw out webs to catch food. You probably won't see the worm itself and maybe not even the tube. They are pretty harmless but can irritate corals if their nets are too close.

Easy with the dino talk :)

ok on the feeding thing bud.

now, how would i have got those snails though, since everything was dry?

only way is if they came in on my reefcleaners order which is possible i guess.

really don't need dino but reading a quick description it doesn't sound like what i have, but who knows.

hopingg again that this is just the ugly year syndrome i am going through and i can get tank mature.

Good point on the dry rock/sand. Life has a funny way of finding it's way into our systems. This will not be the last thing you have that pops up out of nowhere! :).

Tank looks great man, not sure where you are getting ugly from. A little macro hear and there is no biggie and if it really bothers you get a tuxedo urchin some day and it'll be gone.

well,

me being me, i picked a piece of that long string off.

i think it is a type of hair algae as it just had some detritus covering the green which i assume is from when i turkey baste the rocks on water changes and the junk blows around.

i think i am going to get 1 of those jumbo turbos tomorrow on my day off and throw him in there and return him when or if he nails all the hair algae so he doesn't starve.

i am not sure if the red spotted blenny feeds on hair or not, since that will be my first fish, not sure if i should leave the algae in there?

greech, i took some flake food and really ground it with my fingers into almost a powder and fed the tank so hopefully crab will have something until i can pick the other stuff up.

well, i want the tank at your level someday so thats why i think it is still in the new syndrome.

i am hoping now that i have some pretty decent lighting i can start to get some coraline growing on rocks.

thanks again for all your help bud.

When you say "red spotted blenny" are you talking about a real algae blenny or a red scooter blenny (dragonette)? Reason I ask is a real red spotted blenny (algae eating type, which I think are actually called Orange Spotted Blennies even though some appear to be more red than orange) is not very common to find, but a red scooter blenny is at almost every store, but you would have much better luck keeping the algae blenny version vs the dragonette version.

I agree... very nice tank!!! :thm:

thanks benson,

question for you bud.

my ammonia in qt tank is now at .5 from 1 yesterday.

nitrites are at 0.

i added the 1 drop per gallon as directed but it didn't bring it to the 2PPM.

would you add another 10 drops now to get it to spike or hold off?

thanks bud.

Since there is nothing in the QT I would add another 10 drops. Then let it be for a few days while testing. Thats what I did with my 20L.
