Stingray recommended for 125 gallon or what would you recommend?

krytan- I do water changes every 2 weeks like suggested, why are you saying I should do more?

Also checked online and it says everywhere 125 gallon is fine because the ray im looking at only gets 10-12 inches wide...obviously I would upgrade when he gets full size in 2-3 years...
Yes i am suggesting you should do more water changes especialy if you want to keep rays.
Even the smallest of rays need a tank 24" wide also plants don't do well in tanks with rays.

don't stingrays do better in a shallower wide-long set-up? i wouldn't keep one in a standard shaped aquarium

Yes it could survive in a tank that small but we could survive living in a box. IMO a 125 is to small and i would not be happy keeping a ray in one.

krytan so even if i bought a bigger tank in a year (says takes 2-3 years for full size) your saying a 125 is too small? Just confused because i've found many sites that say a 50 gallon is perfect for new small stingray. obviously the bigger they get, bigger the tank needs to be. Tea cups get about 10-12 inches big and the tank is 18 wide.

It's fine to get a juvenile and the upgrade as it grows.
When books and web sites say the minimum size tank for a fish it is only for the fish to survive not to thrive.

If it was just the sting ray in there then it would be perfect. But you want other fish like the fire eel, plants, etc. Rays want a bare or fine sand bottom with MINIMAL plants or obstructions. The tank I have is fine for a juvie but I am also already planning a 200 Long tank in a year.I would suggest you stick with what you have and just upgrade the tank.

i had a clown knife in my 55g he got about 14 in. until i moved, he didnt make the move bummer, but a 125 should be fine for the knife. and the rays depends on what the dimentions of your tank are, it would have to be wide and long
