stirred up some funk

i just finished completely rearranging my rocks, and i stirred up dusts, sand, and all kinds of funk on my sand and my water is really cloudy. will it eventually settle down. i got a powerhead and an aquaclear 150 running.

it will. might need to do a small water change and maybe shut off your power heads.

I know lots of people disagree with this, but removing the water movement is contrary to the desired result. Moving water loses it's sediment load quicker than still water. If you turn of the PH, you'll likely see another clouding when you turn it back on, since the sediment that does settle out will do so in areas that are high flow. Keep the water moving, and it will settle out.

In the future, you may want to use a turkey baster or small line of tubing to siphon the loose detritus off of your rock prior to moving it around to minimize clouding.

A Magnum 350 is perfect for clearing the water. Run it till it clears then remove it.

I just turn on my power heads and it settles

I keep a little piece of 50-micron floss in my HOB, it pulls out any little bits of dust floating around in the water after blowing off the rocks, stirring sand etc. I rinse it every couple days. I agree with OG about the water movement - leave things as they are, and it will eventually settle down even if you don't filter it out.

i prefer switching on the power heads because then the skimmer picks alot of it up, it works really well

well i left everything running, and it all settled out.
