stirring sand

I stir the sand in my tank once a week during water changes. Is that enough?
 
Should be ok with that...
Are you tying to prevent 'anerobic air pockets'?

Never heard a set rule on this, but can't hurt much I guess. Do you have a heavily planted aquarium?
 
I completely forgot what 'MTS' is.....

I do think any sand or fine gravel would need some minor 'stirring' from time to time - not enough to up-root plants though.
 
MTS are excellent sand stirrers, but only down to a depth of about 1.5". I've heard tire-track eels suggested before as a method of stirring it up, but plants would work better with the MTS.
