stock for tank

thats not to bad.....but i saw somthing in their about soft water and a lower ph for one of them.....they need to be able to live in like a ph of 7 and im not sure how hard my water is.....the test said like how many drops it took to change the color of the water and it took like 8 so i dunno if that tells you anything

My south american tank is adjusted to about 7ph and the water is hard out of the tap - my pike is doing great - fat and sassy! He doesn't take any crap and he can dish it out - he is a Crenicichla lepidota - Two-spot pike cichlid.

thats cool...thats one ill look into.....anything else? anyone and everyone.....and it all depends on what i can find locally...and what they can order.....

maybe a lil bump ....only have had one person reply....anyouther suggestions....not that fishboys comments wernt good...just lookin for suggestions?
bump bump bump it up!!!

Okeydokey, I'll bite...
I'm planning on getting a 125 too, I like it mixed up but not overly stocked.
I'll just share what mixes I'm thinking about.
I already have the Oscar and Pleco, so their automatic for me but you can substitute just about any sm-med cichlid not too aggressive for the Plec.
I wouldn't mix the RT or JD with the O, but the Sev, FM and alot of other smaller cichlids are OK.

1 Oscar
1 Snow King Pleco* (* = your pick)
1 Jaguar, Lace Cat or Pleco (Plecos are just such messy poopers)
and a small school (15-20) of dither/target fish... Expendable fish, live munchies for in-between meals. I'll probably use a larger Tetra like the Red Eyed if I do this mix.

Or...

1 Oscar
1 Snow King Plec*
1 Jaguar or Lace Cat
5-6 Silver Dollars (I really want the Red Hooks if I go this mix in mine.).
I might have to drop the Cat if I do the SD's as they get aprox 6-8" avg.

Or...

1 Oscar
1 Earth Eater
1 Sev, FM, or etc... Take your pick of sm-med cichlids.
1 Snow King Plec*

Just a few of the mixes I've been planning :) ....

so your telling me my mix of an oscar,a green terror, lace cat or some catfish,jd and some outher med/large cich.......wont work....
i mean i guess i can drop the outher cich but i thougt maybe a pair of oscars might work......i guess a school of fish would be cool...to add some movement to the tank....id really like to make the tank nice...a nice background some rock work some plants...prolly fake maybe some driftwood

I'm not saying it won't work, I'm saying its not what I plan, would do, will do or recommend.
Any mix depends on the specific temperaments of the individual fish.
When mixing semi-aggressive/aggressive cichlids you never know who's going to get along or not. I wouldn't mix several larger cichlids together, as you see in my mixes I try one large and one or two sm-med cichlids.

Unless you do two Oscars together, but then I would only add one more fish, likely one of the Cats, not the plec becuase of the hefty bioload.

IMO the 125 gal has enough room for one 12-16"+ semi-aggresive/aggressive cichlid and few compatible tankmates, the more compatible the less chance of having to break'em up later.
I also really like the more natural looking cross-section of life, hence my tendency to add the schooling fish, one or two bottom fish and a smaller attractive cichlid to complement my "Display Fish" the Oscar.

well it depends all the fish cept the green terror are just plannin....i already have the gt so its deffintly goin in the tank.......the rest can be nixed if need be....just trying to get a feel for wht i can stock.....
