I have a 30-40 gallon tank (not sure gotta remeasuer the sides and cacluate) it was a gift from a friend and it was his parents adn they forgot the size. but if its a 30 gallon, what else could I put in it if all I have is guppies. I was thinking some rams. eventually I want to move the guppies to another tank, or just leave them in there with a few other fish. I want to grow out a couple of clown loaches in it for a 75 gallon tank im setting up.

I didn't think about guromies. I had them once. I dont like tetras that much. the guppies just had babies a few days ago, gona use them as feeders to my newt he loves fishes. and maybe see if one of the fish shops here will buy them from me.

Actually, quite a few Gouramis get rather big, and territorial at times so make sure to research the gourami species you are interested in. ;)

I'd only get a darwf species. I know the "normal" ones, can get large. im setting up a 75 gallon, I have 2 clown loaches, I want to get 1 or 2 more to put in it and grow them out. but full out plan is not ready yet. only the loaches. so the gourami probly wont make the end cut. thanks for remineding me that some do get large and territorial. would 2 or 4 rams work in there? they only get about 3 inches dont they? and anrt too aggressive?

i have a friend who has rams. he said that they aren't too agressive unless they're mating. he said they dig a pit and all that for the eggs. i've personally never had them because i can't find them at my LFS. cool fish though.

To figure out the size in gallons multiply all the sides (inches) and divide by 231.

So if the tank is 24" long, 12" wide and 16" tall it's about 20 gallons. (24x12x16 all divided by 231)

Rams are a nice community fish and they come in a few varieties (gold, blue etc..) and they do only get a bit aggressive during breeding. I love rams, they are very pretty fish. We carry them at my store and people have really liked them.

I have a school of Rosy Barbs in my 30 gal and they don't get horribly big. They are pretty and very active fish.

Good luck with your tank. We have a newly opened up 44 gal corner that we have not decided on what to put in yet.

A m/f pair of rams would probably go nicely. I would not get anymore than that though as they are aggressive towards one another. Much like discus, rams love warmer water, so a temperature around 82F would be greatly appreciated and will help them fight off disease better.

alright thanks for all the info about rams. they look like really pretty fish from the ones I have seen here. I will probly go with a couple of those.
