...I just looked at your picture again, and it does look like those are small suspended particles. Your filter and some water changes should clear it up.

I did wash the gravel by putting it in a sieve and running water over it and the water ran clear, but im just after taking out the gravel and changing the water and now the waters clear so think im gona need a new method for washing gravel. Would anyone have any suggestions to do this?

It sounds like you washed the gravel correctly. You may have gotten extremely fine gravel, in which some pieces of the rock weren't heavy enough to sink to the bottom. If you decide to set up a new aquarium in the future, just rinse the gravel as much as possible and try to get a larger gravel so you don't have a run in with the same problem
