Stocking a 29

Just called my LFS and he suggested kenyi or duboisi. Can I get a second opinion?

A single fish of either species, but a 29 is too small for groups of either. Tropheus species (duboise or otherwise) need to be kept in groups of 10 or more to spread the aggression around enough that none are killed. Kenyi simply grow too large to keep a group in a 29, even if they don't kill each other off in the meantime.

I was surprised by the duboisi, and it didn't make any sense to me either. Can anybody think of anything to go in there?

Brevis Kavala say about 5 will go nicely in a 29gal nicely..

I think you're going to disappointed if you're looking for African non- shellies for a 29 gal. As was mentioned some of the West African species remain smaller ( kribs, jewels ). You could keep a juvie pair of calvus/ comps for quite some time but it wouldn't be a forever home. I know you're set on Africans but what's wrong with some of the other cichlids? Apistos, Rams, etc remain small and show interesting behaviors.
