Stocking a new 100 gallon tank ideas?

I second the sevs :D they're really great fish. Mine are very large and peaceful.

Sunfish are also an awesome idea in a tank that size.

I vote oscars. they are like having puppies and I love just sitting and watching my bf's

Thanks everyone, based on the opinions I've heard sop far, I'm looking more closely at sevs, silver dollars and a few others. Please keep the suggestions coming.

@Notophthalmus- I really am interested in learning more about the fish you posted and would appreciate it if you could either post or PM me with the names of some vendors. I live in Georgia (U.S.) and am nearish to lake Hartwell, but I don't do much fishing so ordering would probably be easier.

Jaygnar-

You are in the heart of the greatest area of freshwater fish diversity in the temperate world. The Savannah has a great diversity of fishes, and the nearby Tennessee and Coosa drainages are even more absurdly diverse, comparable on a species/drainage area basis to the Amazon and Mekong. Even if you aren't an angler, it's a lot of fun to get out with a net and see what you can find. Hit small to moderate-sized streams for peak diversity and relative ease of capture.

Here are a few vendors that carry sunfish and other North American natives:

Sach's Systems Aquaculture- St. Augustine, FL. Probably the widest selection of any native vendor.

Jonah's Aquarium- San Diego, CA (I think; not quite sure on that one). Good selection of southeastern and midwestern fishes.

Zimmerman's Captive Raised Native Fish- Gambier, OH. Like the name says. Captive-raised fish and crayfish.

KSI Aquatics- Lexington, SC. They have fish available seasonally; concentration is on SC/GA fishes.

BTDarters- Port Washington, WI. No sunfish, but they do carry darters and other small community fishes, if you catch the native bug and want to set up more tanks.

Silver Dollars are really pretty fish, but be warned if you are planning a planted tank it won't last long :)

I live in Florida and have several longear sunfish and a blue gill and a green sunfish.

If you are interested I would be will to give you some :) My tank is overstocked with them anyway.

My boyfriend (DooSPX) and I caught them in the Potomac in West Virginia in July. They are still babies at the moment so none of them are over 3" in length (except the blue gill which I am trying to find a way to keep because he has such a great personality)

Here are the pictures of the longear sunfish. I don't know if these are males or females as they are juveniles and not breeding season (and I'm not expert lol)

oh and all the spots in the pictures are air bubbles, the filters we have are pretty strong.

as they get older they will color up, and in breeding colors.... WOW!
btw, I believe the longears that we have, that were caught in the Potomac River, WV are Central longears and they were introduced.
the other pics of the longear is a northern longear I believe.
