Can't have too many Tiger Barbs...

So I had my 55g pretty well set up as an angel tank. I came into 6 denisonii barbs that are about 1.5" each from someone who could not keep them - so I adopted them.

I moved out 2 black tetras to my 30g and gave away my 2 rainbows from the 55g. I am hoping to find a new home for the rest of the tetras - possibly my empty 30g or to a friend.

Question for the long term - will 6 angels and 6 denisonii barbs be too much in a 55g? I am planning on keeping the BN pleco and the SAE.

Tank is heavy on plants - vals, swords, java fern and wisteria. I also have a Fluval 405 & 305 running on the tank.

Denison Barbs are not a small fish. I have seen them at over 4+ inches. IMO--A 55 is small to them.

So (to me) it would be too tight.

I third the NO, they will get too big like tanker said, and you could use one or the other, angels or barbs. I would go with angels since they are more fun to watch and look cooler.:D

I do like Angels personalities - very cool to watch. Denisonii barbs are pretty cool as well.

Maybe I was too quick to adopt - I am usually the one to take fish if someone can't keep them. In any event, I lightened the load by getting rid of the rainbows and moving the 2 black tetras to my 30g. (Black tetras were also an adoption from a friend who was moving.)

For now I am going to let them be since they are the same size as the scissortail tetras (not rasboras, tetras). I will evaluate as they grow.

Any other thoughts on the mix from anyone else?

I don't think a 55 will be comfortable for both. Most people go by a 10 gallon per adult angel fish rule...so the 55 is already on the lower end of what you comfortably would have them in. The barbs CAN get 5-6 inches and like to move...you will be ok for awhile but in my opinion will need to upgrade relatively soon.

You could keep both for maybe under 6 months but you could stunt their growth and not notice. I am not sure about that though. So don't quote me:)

That's what I get for being nice, eh? I guess I need to look on Craigslist.....

I had 4 angels in my 55. I had to set up another 55 for 2 of the angels because as they got bigger, the fights started and they weren't pretty. Three ganged up on 1 and beat him to the bottom. I saved him, but it was close

A tank with a 4 foot footprint is generally seen as too small for 6 denisonii, let alone other fish as well. They are serious swimmers, especially when kept in schools. I had a single denisonii in a 48" 90g and it was obvious that it wasn't enough space for him.
