Stocking Help

Hi Everyone

Been lurking for awhile, but am overwhelmed with the choices of fish, I would like some help on picking fish that will live together and not out grow the tank.

I have a 29 gal tank with sand substrate and a Emperor 280 filter.

I would like to have a shrimp or crab, some snails and a pleco if possible(will take cats), the rest of the fish I would just like to be as colorful or entertaining as possible.

a lot of plecos get big. to big for a 29 gal tank. well there is so many options. i like guppies or platies or the list can go on forever. you just need to make sure you stick with smaller fish so you dont overstock your tank.

29G limits you to only a select few plec species. Zebra, Gold nugget, King tiger (I think) and a few others.

You could also go with a clown...but there are other options for algea control if that is what your looking for. SAEs are great, look nice and are active during the day.

As for fish, guppies and other livebearers are good choices but eventually you will have to either get rid of some fry or create a new tank (they do breed like mice!) Just throwing names out: tetras, gouramis, rainbows, loaches, some barbs would make nice combinations. Be careful with how many fish...you don't want to overcrowd.

Too much for fry?

I have 31 fry that I am considering growing out since a disease I believe to be Fish TB is wiping out my adult tank and is unresponsive to medications. Would a 30g hex with a penguin 150 too much for 31 guppy fry? I don't plan to keep all of them as adults, trading some in to the LFS.

SAE: Siamese Algea Eater

Usually the ratio for fish is one inch of fish per gallon.
