I want to get a 30 gallon tank someday, and I might be getting one off a local guy. I wouldn't be setting it up any time soon, but I'd like to get some stocking ideas.
I really like cory cats and loaches, and I'd like a small school of one of the other. I also want a small school of shoaling fish. Could I have a school of ember tetras and also something else? I would also like a pair of "centerpiece" fish, something pretty. I've seen some really pretty killifish, and some gouramis are also pretty. I want all these guys to get along, so they need to be community fish.
Please give me any nice stocking ideas you have!

Well, the loaches would depend on which one. What I'm planning in my 29 is:

10 danios
6 cories
6 kuhli loaches
1 dwarf gourami

Sounds like that's kind of what you want, except possibly tetras instead of danios (although I highly recommend the danios, they're fun!).

For a 30 gallon tank you could do;

1 Pair of Keyhole Cichlids
6 to 7 Corydoras
10 rasboras (I like Harlequin,Galaxy or Dwarf)

You could also go with:

1 Pair of Honey Gouramis
10 Black Neon Tetras
6 Kuhli Loaches

It's all up to your personal prefrence.

Here are some things I like...
Peppered cory cat, kuhli loach, ember tetra, bamboo shrimp, hi-fin zebra danio, and glowlight tetras. Would any combination of these be okay/peaceful?
Still can't decide on a nice centerpiece fish. Any more suggestions?

Harlequin rasoboras are also nice
What about a pair of peacock gudgeons?

near any apistogramma would make a perfect centerpeice for a tank like that. i like the idea of ember tetras, maybe some panda cories or dwarf chain loaches

I found some more centerpiece fish...

German Blue Rams

Angels (will eat neons and other samll fish)

Cockatoo Cichlids

As for inverts you could go with bamboo shrimp, cherry shrimp, amano, ect. They have some great deals in the classified section of AC.com

How does this sound for 30 gallons.
6 peppered cory cats
1 bamboo shrimp
12 ember tetras
2 peacock gudgeons
6 long fin zebra danios
Would this be over stocked? I wish I could also have either kuhli or dwarf loaches, but I'm afraid that would be too much. I don't know what kind of bioloads I'm dealing with here though.

Sounds great! I was just at my LFS and they had just gotten some Peacock gudgeons, and they look amazing! Try to ask if they have pairs before you buy.
