my LFS is pretty good when i went in and talked to them(its a family run buisness), the owners son explained cycling to me and how i couldnt add fish for 4-6weeks. he said the RTS should be ok with the barbs as long as it has plenty of caves and can stake out a little bit of territory

i would be more worried about the RTS getting at the tigers. a school of 18 tiger barbs may still nip at the RTS, but not as much as if there were 6. the shark will start to go after the tiger barbs eventually.

A 45g should be fine for both. There is nothing to worry about considering both species are able to defend themselves. I've mixed tiger barbs with my loaches and they are far nastier than RTBS yet they leave the tiger barbs alone considering the tiger barbs also have the tendency to retaliate if chased.

I agree. I kept a dozen Tiger barbs with a 4" rainbow shark with no issues. Red tail sharks, Rainbow sharks, and semi-aggresive loaches are about the best thing to keep with Tigers IMO.

ok guys so i got a crazy new idea and need some opions. Ive seen that some people carve there own backround and such for there tanks. I was wonderind what you guys think about carving out a base for bottom of the tank instead of a backwall. I was thinking i could build up some areas and them hollow them out for the shark?
