Hi everyone,

Currently cycling a 140gal, when its finished I would like to create a community planted tank.

It would be great if you could share some ideas on fish and plants for the tank.

Tank size is 48 x 24 x 28

:dance

Nice size, there's so much you could do with that tank... *drool*
How about an Amazon tank? I'd plant it heavily with swords and micro swords, add driftwood and keep a group of angels, lots of cardinals, corys, otos and a couple smaller plecos.

This is my first freshwater tank, i am a salt water convert. :D. I thought 140 gal would be a good size, plenty of room to play around with.

Yes amazon sounds good, i like the idea of fish with lots of colour swimming throught lots of plants

You could do a species tank with new world or african cichlids (heheheh- or even add in a couple Blood parrots); an odd ball tank with a knife fish and some polypterus, community tank as suggested with huge guppy/tetra/danio schools and african butterfly fish;gouramis, loaches, lots of plants....oh man you will have tons of fun setting up and picking out stock...are you gonna get any pics?

I would go for a big school or two of fish, like 20-40, that would look awesome. I've been looking for a 180 or bigger and I want to add to all my schools when I get it.

I am a fan of amazon tanks myself. I am planning a 125 gallon. I wanetd the 120 gallon which was bascially the same dimensions as your tank, but not as tall. I envy the sense of fore, middle and background you will get from a tank that wide. Alas, my wife said longer was better than wider because she didn't want it to stick out so far from the wall. Oh well, at least I get a big tank.

Anyway, I was going to plant mine as well and put in tons of small tropicals. I wanetd 2 large schools of neon and lemon tetras for color and flash, then a large school of pygmy cory cats because they stay small like the tetras and school throughout the middle and bottom of the tanks. Then, I wanted a bunch of guppies for color and variety. If I felt I could trust the angels, I would love to get some. If you are confident and have experience and happen to be blessed with soft water, skipping the guppies and angels and going with Discus would be a beautiful tank.

are you looking for a community that will be active or one that just strolls around doing its own thing ?

Definitly Big huge 20-40 fish schools of neons, and glowlights, or even columbias. Go Rams, Or angels. Clown Loach School of about i dunno 3-8 Definitly a huge school of different types of corys
I would say lots of live plants especially Java Sticks, And Swords
Drift wood, and big rocks!
Keep me posted im adding you to my friend list by the way so you can lemme know what you get!

You could keep a nice school of Discus in a tank that size. I think you'll have trouble with high light & foreground plants in a tank that is 28" deep. I think I would go with easy to grow plants like anubias nana & barteri. I like big tanks that are 4' long. IMO deep and wide tanks are more interesting.

I'm having to edit every dang post today. I think my brain is enjoying the nice weather outside...
