Stocking ideas for a 20 gallon community tank

I agree kasakato. They are pretty cool. But you just can't keep one in a 20g. ;)
So have you decided? Are you going with my suggestion? Because if you are, I have a change to my suggestion.

9 neon tetras
2 small cory's
2 otto's
3 platies
1 guppy
The reason I think you should get 1 guppy instead of 3 is because they breed like well, guppies. And yes you should get all males of platies and a male guppy. The reason you should get males of those is because I have heard platies and guppies will mix and breed therefore making a mixed species. Plus, I am sure you don't want breeding of anykind anyway. ;)
And about the otto's; I think they will help control the algae while the cories take care of the uneaten food. The thing about otto's is I think you should put in 1 algae wafer a day to make sure all of the bottom-dwellers get enough food.

Good Luck! ;)

for info on species of fish check out http://www.aquariacentral.com/species/
as far as breeding, some species have never been bred in a home aquaiurm, so they would fall under the difficult convicts, other fish requrie nothing more than water to bread. (convict cichlids come to mind) those fish bread every 3 weeks. Also guppies breed like rabbits. I know it seems like a ton right now, but keep asking questions, and we will be more than glad to answer them.

Would this change if I dont put live plants in my tank?

Another option for a 20 is something like Kribensis or Ram Cichlids. They're active and fun to watch, you can breed them, and they keep nuclear families. If you do consider breeding, I hear Kribs are better parents and hardier. They may be more aggressive when mating though, but you can still keep tetras with em. Kribs and Rams are two of the most gorgeous small fish I've ever seen, too. The ones I've seen are stunning.

That's what I've opted for in my 25... Always a thought. To Krib, or not to Krib (to Ram)... that is the question.
