Stocking our 180gal

I will soon be setting up my 180gal, it's 96x18x25. No particular theme, but I am wanting to do something interesting with large fish. Right now we're thinking of moving the 3 TF barbs, 2 pictus, and pleco into it. We also want to do a few other large, like maybe an Oscar and a severum or two. And possibly another catfish of some sort.

This stock is not definite by any means.

Also wanted some filtration ideas, my largest tank to date is my 125gal. Thanks.
 
For filtration I would do 2 canister filters, maybe an FX5 and a smaller/cheaper one. An oscar and a couple of sevs sound great for that tank - sometimes severum can be aggressive to others of the same species but in a tank that size there's a good chance it would work out.

My brother and his wife, along with my wife and I, all embark on this hobby together and have several set ups between our two homes. Price is not an issue, but we have talked about going with a couple of the Eheim's on each end, and a couple of HOB's.

I think my main concern is the stock. I want the 3 barbs, 2 pictus, the pleco, plus I want to add maybe 2 oscars. Everyone else wants to add 1 oscar and 1 or 2 severums. Is the sev as active and personable a fish as the O? I know we'll have the activity with the TFB's, but I liked the personality with my O's in the past.
 
I don't think oscar and pictus would work together.
The only thing i regret with my 180g is not using a wet/dry, i have three canisters on it at the moment but when i upgrade the tank i will defently have a sump instead.
 
I wanted oscars again. Maybe I'll put them in the 90gal when I move the TFB's and those out to the 180.

What about the personality of the sev's?
 
Sounds a lot like my tank. In my 150, I have a pair of gold sevs, an oscar, a P. polleni, pictus and 4-lined pims, a few plecos and some silver dollars. There is some mild aggression along the cichlids, but nothing major. Worst injuries have been from the dumb oscar jumping into the glass tops during feeding time.

And yes, another vote for the wet/dry.

I'd like to add another pleco, the 2 sev's, and another type of cichlid.
 
Having a wet/dry is MUCH better than using canisters, it increases the volume of the tank and you can hide equipment like your heaters in it.
I have a quetzal cichlid in my tank, it's one of my favourite fish and very colourful.
