I am planning to have some angels in a very heavily planted 75g tank, along with some cories, some BN LF plecos, some cherry shrimp, Amano shrimp, and briggs.. what's the ideas on this combination? And if there aren't any real arguments to this, how many angels would be a good balance?

The angel is likely to eat the cherry shrimp, but I would either go with 1 or 5. But, be prepared out of 5 you may well get a pair (or two) and they can become very aggressive to any other tank mates.

I keep 2 pairs in a 55..no real issue except some squabbling.

they are in the tank with cories and bn's

keep in mind tho that each set up is different. the pairs will fight for prime real estate and you may get issues with more than a pair.
but since the set up is new you can start with 5-6 but keep a watchful eye on them.
chances are you will get a pair and the dynamics will be changed.

You could keep 6 or so angels in a 75g. I have 8 right now in my 100g with 3 pairs among them and they are baseball sized bodies. They are in there with my discus and ABN plecos.

The shrimp will not do well with your angels, nor with your pleco. Cories would even eat small shrimp. I'd scrap the plans for the shrimp unless you want to waste money, because they will be eaten in that environment.

I've never heard of a BN pleco or cories eating adult shrimp, babies maybe. All the corys I've had barely recognized food when it was put right in front of their face. And I would not expect a BN plec to go hunting after shrimp...maybe an accidental swallow, but nothing tragic.

Angels are a different story though.

Angels will clean your tank of the cherry shrimp and the amano shrimp they will thank you for the expensive tasty treat.

As far as Angels I currently have 14 or 15 in my 90 g now I have been do this for a very long time you do have to be some what careful with this many but.

Most people for get that they are a social and schooling fish (before some one jumps all over me go to youtube or vimeo or look in books about angels in the wild they swim in schools in the wild.)

when they pair up they do get aggressive to a point they will chase any fish that comes near their spawning leaf or slate but they will not kill any tank mates, they are way to busy tending to their eggs for that to happen.

I have also had 3 spawns at once in this tank with no problems at all I removed the fry as soon as they became free swimmers so they could be raised up otherwise the would be eaten it very short order.

you could keep as many as 10 I would think as your 75 has as the samefoot print as my 90 just not as tall.

Huh, I really had heard that with enough plants my shrimp would be ok.. good to know I guess *sigh* back to the drawing board.. it is so frustrating trying to find a good tank blend.. I spose technically, I'm the problem.. wanting the best of all worlds in one tank =) I'm starting to think a divider might be the answer here.. I am definitely not "allowed" to have more than one tank set up so that's out of the question.. but I guess I've seen tanks split in half that don't look horrible.. any suggestions?

Not to hammer in a point already made but the other day I added some ghost shrimp to feed my Leopard ctenopoma and SA Lungfish and my 2 gold veil angels were more excited and trying to hunt them than either of the other fish! I guess the only good thing I saw is they were not amazing hunters and I dont think they got one.

You could dived the tank with acrylic and you would have two tanks with 2 filters and two heaters etc.. If I was going to do that that would be the way I would do it. anything with holes in would just give algae and crud a place to build up. you could plant tall plants on either side of the divider to hide it for view. The more I think about it the better I like the idea.

Good luck

I already have 2 300watt heaters, 2 30-60gal HOB filters, 2 canister filters.. 350 mag deluxe and 250 mag, 150lbs of medium red flint rock (less than pea size) pressurized co2, 3wpg lighting... just can't figure out the stock i want.. or that would go good in there =\ I think I am going to post in the General Freshwater section and see if i can get some more ideas for stocking it just bums me out.. everything I think will work and get excited about, fails =(
