So I think I’ve finally settled on my stock list for the big tank. I’m going 8x2x2 and I’m thinking I’m going with the bichirs, the pims and a Green Bay snook. I might have to move the sen and would probably replace it with an ornate or a lap. What do you guys think?

My head hurts, LOL! I thought you had it all figured out.

So now you're venturing into the territory of true monsters. Ornates are cool fish. One shop down in Denver has one that I'm sure is a bit over two feet long regardless of what the max is supposed to be, and probably nearly as big around as a two liter bottle. Impressive fish, but they have him crammed into a custom tank that is maybe 6' long, 18" wide and maybe 14" deep. It's a shame.

The snook is one species I won't ever get, I just don't feel right putting one in a 6' tank even if other people do. Definitely doable in that tank though. I think I'd go with an umbie if I ever get there. Maybe I will get there some day...? who knows. I'm still young, relatively. I keep telling myself that if I build the greenhouse Mrs. WYite wants for her that's a lot of credit to play with. ? That's a lot of work, though. A lot of work.

So what are you going to do with your pike haps?

LOL I thought I had it figured out too, but the more I thought about it, I already have a Hap/ peacock tank and I wanted to try my hand at monsters, but not overly aggressive monsters. It also helped that I was able to get an ID on the rhamps and found out they’re one of the smaller types that rarely exceed 8-9”, so they’re gonna stay in the 120 with the other rifties although I might put them in the big one temporarily to get a little more size on a few of the Aulonocara. After hours of late night research, snooks seemed to be perfect, big but not stupid big like RTCs or aligator gar. Guess I’m committed now, I placed my order from TUIC about an hour ago. I like umbees too, but i want tank mates
Are you sure that’s an ornate and not something like an ansorgii or congicus? Ive seen 2ft ornates, but they’re usually not that thick, sounds more like a lower jaw type. But ya, I hate to see fish crammed like that. Bichirs are more active than people realize.
I’m not sure if I’m getting the ornate yet though. Part of me is thinking the bottom is pretty good with 3 large bichirs and 3 14” catfish.
Haha, ya that should get you a helluva credit line. You sound like you’re pretty handy and building a plywood tank is doable for you. I thought about trying it myself after watching some kingofdiy but thought better of it.
