12-14 neons
4 guppies (1 m: 3 f)
8-10 panda corys
Pearl gouami trio (will eat guppy fry)

LOL! This is a lot like what I have in my 56 planted.
4 Pearl gourami (1 male, 3 female)
5 Harlequin rasboras/8 Espei rasboras
4 Sterbai cories, 2 peppered cories, 1 Schwartzi cory.
Oh and one yoyo loach. I am looking to rehome him if I could ever catch him.
I am quite happy with this tank. I just took a picture - sorry that it looks kind of messy - I was futzing with the plants.

Plenty of people keep female bettas together, myself included. A 55 could support 6 or so.

I totally agree that it's possible, but MAN mine were relentless (in a heavily planted 45 gallon)!!! Just pointing out that it isn't necessarily a recipe for success, and I'd suggest having a backup plan in case it doesn't work out.
