Stocking question - pH 8.2

I am expecting to be through my cycle in a week or two and need some stocking ideas. Until I bought a liquid test kit I was using strips that told me I had 6.5 ph soft water. I now learn that I am a steady 8.2 from tap and in tank. I have planted (plants are soft water, lwo ph plants but appear to be thriving) and a nice rock pile. I have 2 corys and one cory fry that are doing fine. I had been thinking soft water Amazonia theme, but the high pH is throwing that off. What are some themes or ideas someone might have for my situation?

given proper acclimation procedures and a good waterchange/maintanance schedule you should have no problems keeping softwater amazonian fish. My tapwater is liquid rock (High GH) and my softwater tetras are thriving.

you have to remember most fish and plants are bred/cultivated in higher ph and harder water then whats in the wild so their fry will be hardier and more adaptable.

so you should be able to go with what ever you want

With an elevated PH, perhaps you can raise it a bit with some crushed coral and go with African Cichlids.

Perhaps do a Rift Cichlid Tank.

I forgot to mention

It is only 12g. Any cichlid possibilities. Would I really want to raise the pH from 8.2?

well...12 Gal is quite small. and raising the pH for Alot of Africans is somewhat needed. the Rift cichlids like pH in the Mid 8 point range.

Perhaps post in the Cichlids area for Dwarf Africans that can live in the Luquid Rock you have that is tap water!

Eveb the Rift lake fish adapt well so long as the water is hard and alkaline, but such fish or not suited to such a small tank other than trhe shell swellers and they are not suited to planted tanks.
