Hi, i've got a fluval 90 litre tank (about 20 gallons i think!!) and need some advice on what would be good fish to keep as at the moment i've got a few differnent fish left from when i replaced my old tank!!!! these are
1 Angel
1 Pearl Gouramis (male)
2 Zebra Danios
1 Clown Loach
1 Neon Rainbow
and the tank is well planted although I don't know the names!!!

I would really like to have a tank that has pearl gouramis in a group as they are really beautiful!!!!! and either some more neon rainbows or danios although i really can't decide so if anyone has any suggestions!!

Am I correct in saying that you plan on removing some of the inhabitants of the current tank?

if so pearl gouramis are beautiful and generally peaceful. they are prob one of my favorite gouramis.

but your tank may only be able to comfortably support a couple of these with some small tank mates.

I am thinking of giving some of them to people i know for their tanks as i know they'll be well cared for just depends which fish i decide on.

I really like pearl gouramis i've had my male for nearly a year at first i had a pair but the female died after moving them to the new tank not sure why but that was about 5 months ago!! he's a large male so i was thinking of getting maybe 2 females!! i've also been told to only get larger pearl gouramis or i'll get him nipping them! is this right? as I was thinking of getting 1 large female and another pair of smaller pearls but not sure if this will work!!!

Thanks for the suggestion i'm thinking of keeping the pearl gouramis as he's such a lovely fish and add some female pearls, i like the idea of doing SE asia tank but do i have the right plants for this kind of setup? and what amounts of fish could i put in this tank without it getting overcrowded? I was thiking of maybe 4 pearl gouramis (including the 1 i already have) 6 danios and 6 harlequin rasbora and maybe the kuhli loachs.

Most aquarium plants are from Asia, and by the looks of it you already have hygro, wisteria, and vals?

I would personally go with one gourami in this setup, unless you can get smaller species such as honeys or sparklers. Then either the school of danios or rasboras (6 or so) with kuhlis, same number.

I second jpappy's suggestion of sparkling gouramis - they are an underrated, beautiful and peaceful fish, and I think they would make a nice visual complement to the pearl. you are right to be a bit wary of keeping pearls together. IME they are not that aggressive, but they can be a bit in a tank this size.

I think the Angel will outgrow the tank in a very short time. In addition, they are very aggressive and will get nippy with your more peaceful fish. Many years ago, a friend of mine had 3 Angels in a 55G tank. He purchased about a dozen Neons and when he added them, we watched the Angels scarf up all but 2 or 3. Pretty expensive fish food.

Hi there: I'd like to add (since I don't think anyone else mentioned it) that the clown loach is too big for that aquarium. They get really big and should really be kept in schools. I am a big fan of them, and they will rid an aquarium of unwanted snails, but definitely not what you want in a 20 gallon. I hope this helps, frogdog.
