Hi, i'm new and found this site through google. I got a halfmoon betta for my birthday and then immediately went out and bought 2 female betta's and a 20 gallon tank. The betta's are in 1 gallon bowls for now until i can get another tank and so far i have 3 guppies in my 20 gallon. They have been in there for 5 full days and will be adding a couple more fish next week followed by a couple more each week after that. Any suggestions on what would go well in my new tank? Thanks KC

One gallon bowls for each Betta right? Not all three in one? That would be very bad. The Bettas should have their own tanks, at least 5 gallons, or 2.5 the absolute lowest.

The Male betta is in a 2 gallon bowl for now, when i am done with the 20 gallon i would like to get him a 10 gallon for himself...i originally had 2 female betta's in the same tank as eachother...not the male. But 1 of the females just laid at the bottom on the gravel so for now i put her in the 20 gallon tank. She hangs in the dead wood at the bottom and comes out occasionally to swim around before retreating back to her hiding spot.
You could keep your Male Betta in the 20 gallon as a center piece fish. Just make sure his tank companions aren't nippy. Throw in a Bristlenose Pleco, because they rock.

You could do a female betta sorority in the 20g, with maybe 5 females and maybe some cory cats or a bristlenose pleco, but you can't put the male in with them. Also- Do you know about cycling? That's the process that you're 20g is going through now. You'll need to get a good test kit (Like the API freshwater master test kit) and monitor the water levels very closely until the cycle is over. Okay, So here is an update.... I have 1 Female Betta, 1 Male Guppy, 2 Female Guppies, 4 Orange Neon Tetra's, and 3 Platies. Over the next few weeks, this is what i was thinking of adding... A few Cories, 2 more females guppies, and some raspboras, and 1 more platy
Sounds like a lot for a 20 gallon. I'd go with:
Betta
1 Male Guppy
2 Female Guppies (They will breed a lot and often)
6 Orange Neon Tetras
3 Platies (is it 1 male to 2 females? If not, make the ration 1:2)
Cories OR Raspboras. (Don't think you should do both)
Okay another update. One of my platies died! 
best looking one too. Not sure what happened. Yesterday i did a 10% water change and actually my tank was a lil low so i actually put in about 3-4 gallons while taking out 2. Then i fed them some brine shrimp and didn't realize how much i was putting in. So i let them eat for about 5 minutes and used my net to scoop out the brine shrimp floating around. So i don't think the death was due to over eating or water quality, since my other two platies are doing fine. Also my female betta is chasing one of the alive platies around the tank but not the other is it due to the color of the platy or...?
