Hey,
I have a planted 2.5 gallon (2 anubias, 1 java fern, 1 water sprite, and a patch of dwarf harigrass up front that's not doing too well), heated with a small piece of driftwood. The tank is a small tank that my mother had that she wanted to get up and running again in the living. Somebody suggested that shrimp would be okay to add. Basically, I am looking to have as many organisms as possible without overcrowding. And I know that is probably insanely difficult with this bitty tank (yeah, and this is my 1st tank, not a good one to try my skills on- my next tank will be a 20 to 30 gallon).

How many shrimp could I get? 2?
Should I get different kinds or the same kind?
Is there any other kind of organism that could fit with the shrimp?

It is filtered right? It needs to be if you want to suport anything other than plants.

How bout' this for a stocking list:

1 male betta
3 ramshorn snails
2 gohst shrimp (depending on the betta, some will eat shrimp)

That's about all I would try in a 2.5g, and it's probably pushing it a little bit as far as stocking goes.

Thanks for replying! I'm not really interested in a betta for this tank. Mom wants another tank with a betta in a different location.
Hmm...she's not really a fan of snails either...I'll have to think about them.
2 shrimp are fine...but I was hoping to make the shrimp the main focal point...is there a brighter shrimp that would work?
Thanks so much for your help...sorry to be so picky...my mom was fairly disappointed when I told there wasn't too much I could do with a 2.5g, lol. So, I am trying to make sure she will be pleased with the results.

Instead of the shrimp there is a lovely little fish called an endler that can do well in a 2.5 gallon. They are a relative of the guppy, but are tiny and very colourful, happy little fish. The males are smaller than the females, so I can recommend a pair of males.

There are a number of shrimp with bright red markings, cherry shrimp are probably the easiest to find most places. And a couple shrimp are all I'd put in a planted 2.5g.

Endlers do stay quite small, males being 3/4-7/8", but breed prolifically if given the opportunity, so do make sure you buy only males if you go that route.

Ooo...Endlers...that sounds really good. I was concerned that mots fish would not have enough swimming space. I was a fan of the shrimp, cause I like interesting critters....But the parents love the Endler idea, they really wanted fish.

Thanks!!!

Yeah, I will defiantely go with male endlers. I was originally thinking of two Cherry Shrimp, but I think they want fish.
