I already have a 70 gallon set up with an Amazon theme. Corys, plecos, and lots of tetras. Just before Christmas I bought a 150 gallon tank with the intent of creating a bigger version of the first tank. I've been delayed in setting up the second tank and am now considering discus. If I go with discus, I'll still have corys and plecos but what else could I prudently add? How many small discus would you buy and would you buy all the same?

Thanks

Rob

Discus w/ plecos are okay....just keep an eye on them to make sure that they are latching onto the side of the discus....at the LFS that i work at we keep a large display tank w/ discus, tetras, cories, and plecos (green phantom and a rhino pleco) and dont have any problems

personaly, i don't care. if you want to mix discus with plecos, it's your business. from my experience, no pleco is good with discus, not even bushy nose. but others maybe had or will have better luck.

for the most part, bushy nose plecos are fine with discus. The large common type plecos are the ones you have to worry about. I dont think they'll be much of a concern...

Well, in a 150 gallon tank you could easily keep 50 3" discus, lol. Realistically for the common hobbyist...15-20 discus would be great. you can get different types, or all one type...that is personal preference...just be sure you dont get them from your LFS and make sure you get them all from the same source at the same time so you dont have to QT new stock. For that many discus, it would be best to go with a local breeder if there are any around you, or go with a reputable and reliable mail order breeder/importer. PM me if you want a list of good mail order breeders/importers that I recommend.
