stores spreading diseased fish?

There is also the possibility that your fish are carriers or there are things in your tank that your fish have grown immune to. When you add new fish to said tank, they do not have the same immunities that your fish do. Hence they get sick or your fish get sick because the new fish carry something that your fish do not have the immunities for. Anytime you add new fish to an existing tank, it is a crap shoot.

I never thought of this aspect until researching Discus. While researching, I found that most discus owners have a "hero" discus fish. They qt all new discus for about 4-6 weeks and when the qt is over, they take their "least favorite" discus that is in their main tank and transfer it to qt. That way they find out if the new fish has anything that their old fish do not have immunities for without risking all of the fish in the main tank and vise versa. If the new fish get sick, they know that their main tank has something in it that the new fish don't have the immunities for and if the "hero" fish gets sick they know that the new fish has something that their old fish don't have the immunities for. Then they can treat the qt to get rid of the disease/parasite before the new fish go into the main tank.

I hope that makes sense.

thanks for all the help. appreciate it. follow up on my tank

I have not seen any signs of the problem in the tank since friday when my last fish died that had it. This is day 10 of the ich/salt bath treatment and I was wondering if I can stop treatment now? It looks like everything is going good, no signs on any fish, the ones that were infected slightly have been more active and no signs on them as well. Today is Wednesday and it says about 3-4 days after you can stop treatment. I bought another ich bottle incase i need it but I ended up using just the first bottle. Total loss of fish..... 1 turquoise danio, 1 glofish danio, 1 mickey mouse platy, 2 serpea tetras, 4 3 striped african catfish. Now to replace them...

I have honestly never had any fish get a disease except my betta with fin rot.
