Storing A Tank

The silicone should not dry out if stored right. You are going to want to clean and dry the tank and store it in a cool dark place. If it is exposed to the sun then you could have issues with the silicone. If you store it in a place that has drastic temperature changes you could have issues over a long period of time. I personally have stored them in the back of the garage and put them in a couple of black plastic bags to keep the light off of them and have never had a problem (you can use a cardboard box also, the key is to block the sun from the tank). Obviously before I put them back in use I would take them outside and fill them to the top and let them sit for a week to see if there were any leaks. That is probably overkill but I would prefer to have the tank sit out for a few extra days then have an incident in the house. This is one method and I am sure others have their own.
