Strange acting Cherry shrimp

Pure RO/DI can be just as bad. Yes the water is "pure" but it is also lacking nutrients and minerals. Short term it would probably be fine, long term you will have issues.

I use Prime with my weekly water changes in my shrimp tanks. No problems with that.

If you do a large enough WC, you should be okay. I always run the tap for over a minute before filling any buckets with it. Just a safety policy in case there is any lingering copper deposits from the old pipes in my house. *knocks on wood somewhere*

I use tap water conditioner that multiplies the dosage/ga depending on if you just want to remove chlorine or go as far as removing heavy metals.

Hows your feeding routine? I overfed once and suffered for a few days with heavy losses. But usually there are one or two deaths here and there. Dosen't make a difference when you got a lot.

I'm with napster on that point as well. When I had a tank of 50 cherries I'd lose one every now and then. Nothing out of the ordinary.

I feed once every few days and about 1/4 a algae wafer for my approx 25 RCS and my snails. Also yea I did a large 50% wc today and only lost one still

Well strange to report that today, the shrimp that I was observing appears to be acting normal again and no other deaths to note? I did do a 50% wc so maybe that helped a bit. Quite odd lol, on another note I seem to be finding more and more babies but havnt observed any egg bearing females... :-P

It could have been trying and struggling to molt

I had actually thought about that as a possibility but since I had one just die I thought that it was probably dieing as well... Also never actually seen one molt before but this one was REALLY red, very very much more noticeably than any of the others.

FWIW - when dead or after a molt do not remove the molt or the dead shrimp as the rest will eat it because it is a beneficial source of calcium for them.
