I have an angelfish, Ariconte (the only fish I have named in a long time), that I've had about a year now. He's currently in my 26G bowfront community tank that I moved into about 3 months ago. He's always been active, a little bit of a bully, and always very enthusiastic about food.
Very recently (the past few days) he seems to have lost his "zip". He hangs out in one corner of the tank and isn't interested in food...he'll sort of look at it, and then just swim by or ignore it entirely. He's not sitting on the bottom or swimming irregularly, and looks very healthy otherwise, he just seems, I don't know, depressed? Here is a photo I took tonight (not sure if it will be diagnostically helpful):
The tank is also home to 7 danios and 6 neons, one three-spot gourami, a cory cat and yoyo loach, and assorted snails and ghost shrimp. The tank is a little overstocked, but I have 2 30G Aqua Clear filters running and perform regular water changes and gravel vacs. It's also got a bunch of live plants, here is a photo of the tank:
Note how he didn't move between photos :/
I tested the water, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrates, and the pH was 7.8 (which is what it comes out of the tap at), in other words, totally normal. The temp hangs out at a steady 74F. The water is a little cloudy from a block of snail jello I tossed in last night, the fish like to tear them apart and the dissolved calcium always clouds the water a little. I haven't made any major changes lately, and everyone else in the tank seems perfectly happy and active.
Sooooo....long story short, is this something I should be concerned about? This is my first and only angel, so I don't know if this behavior is considered normal, and he will snap out of it, or if I should be really worried about his hunger strike. I have tried enticing him with bloodworms (a favorite treat) to no avail. Any suggestions? I don't want to lose my favorite fish :help:
