Well, this isn't my fish story... but...
My boyfriend has 3 female guppies in a 10 gallon tank that's pretty heavily planted with java ferns. This fish has always been weird, every time someone approaches that tank she stops using her fins to swim!! She just sinks down to the bottom and wiggles around! So my boyfriend and I thought this fish was for sure going to die, because every time we looked at it, it would act like it was dieing or had dropsy! One time we hid behind the couch and watched the fish, and we noticed that the females were all swimming perfectly fine, but the second we got out from behind the couch she would act like she couldn't swim again.
This has been going on for months now, and she does it all the time. It's quite amusing but I'm always afraid she'll get dropsy and we won't even notice!
