My guppies have been acting a little strange lately. They've been rubbing against the substrate as though they've got ich or something but none of my fish have any sign of the icky stuff.

Is it normal for them to do that sometimes?

They do it against my anubias too.

If that is the only sign of a problem you cannot be sure what it is. It could be ich, but it could also mean than something in the water is irritating them. It could be ammonia or another chemical. If you haven't already you should up your water changes, and make sure the water going into the tank is free of irritants. This will get rid of any irritants and help fish stay healthy if a disease is coming on. Other than that keep you eyes open for anything else.

Test your water for ammonia, nitrites, nitrates to make sure everything is 0 (nitrates below 20 ppm). If water tests for ammonia/nitrite, there's a problem in your tank and you need to make partial water changes until the numbers go down
to 0. Also make sure the temperature is stable and in your fish's comfort zone (sometimes heaters get stuck).

If water all tests OK, keep your eye out for white 'grains' on the body of your fish--this is ich, & requires treatment.
