I have a betta in a 5g tank, with AQ mini and heater. The fish was doing great for many months, but brown algae was growing due to lack of light. I added florescent lighting, and some floating plants, and the brown has gone away, and green algae has grown in its place.

The tank looks great, but the betta has stopped eating and is paler than usual. I'm going to place the betta in a jar til I figure this out.

NItrates are near 0, and the temp is in the low 80's.

Any ideas what went wrong?

Is the temp always that high? I keep my betta around 75, and he is very active. The warmer water may be slowing him down. Try doing a water change with a few degrees cooler water and see if that perks him up any.
