Strange worm like animal found in tank

My neighbor works at the Freshwater Institute and I took my parasite to her and someone there identified it for me. This is the email I got from him:

Hi Karen,
Christine lent me your leech for identification, and after a good look Id say that this is a Placobdella ornata. This species of leech is common and has a wide distribution throughout North America. Theres a large variety of shapes and sizes, and they can be either free-living or parasitic to fish and other aquatic species (in fact the common name for this species is the turtle leech). Unless theres an infestation of these leeches in your aquarium then I wouldnt be overly concerned about the health of your fish being detrimentally affected.
Hope this helps!

How the heck it arrived in my tank is anyone's guess!

I think I have solved the leech mystery and like most mysteries, it has a logical answer.

Back in January I set up a 5 gallon tank for my daughter. Along the way, I got a bundle of anachris for it from the LFS and it melted and I removed the dead parts as they happened. All that remained was one littls stem....which I moved into the above described 10 gallon tank and totally fogot about.

The 5 gallon has sat idle for a good while waiting for me to break it down and start over. We have a newborn baby, give me some slack! LOL

I just decided to clean out the tank (which had almost half evaporated) and I found another leech under this hideous red dragon ornament that my daughter just HAD to have. I am now bleaching the heck out of it all. Leeches creap me out! I've not seen any more of them thank goodness. They can't possibly survive the bleach treatment can they?
