Stress reducer in Aqua Plus+

Herbal Extracts

Aqua Plus contains "Herbal Extracts". Specifically valerian root extract and chamomile flower extract which are supposed to act as sedatives for the fish. Think Chamomile Tea for people. Whether it's effective or just marketing, I don't Know.

Ah, thank you Padraig. I could not find anything on the web that listed just what was supposed to be in it. I was half expecting tea tree oil.

I suspect it's just marketing, however I will research it.

Thanks again.

Roan

Edit: Valerian root: Sleeplessness/Insomnia, Anxiety, Fatigue, Nervousness, Stress, Ulcers, Menstrual Cramps, Muscle Cramps, Pain, Spasms, High Blood Pressure. That's what it does to people, anyhow. It's a sedative. Overdose of that could probably kill your fish.

I doubt you could OD on that. >.<
Sounds like you're just making that up to be honest.

*shrug*
It could be marketting but I swear I see a big difference with my cardinals. They are rather skittish about transplants and though I don't move them around too much I noticed when first introducing them to this tank they didn't seem stressed at all ...

Also a few days ago when I changed my substrate (No cycle happend btw) I used the same and a few minutes after adding it they were a lot calmer.

:D

Why would you even make a comment like that?

Look, drug your fish if you want to. That's your perogative.

I don't appreciate it when someone who, instead of doing their own reasearch, makes an insinuation of that nature.

Good luck with your fish in the future,

Roan

Well the whole 'probably' thing doesn't really sound too assertive. You should be careful because things like that may be mistaken for fact and then you've got misinformation floating around.

I made my comment because a previous poster said

Think Chamomile Tea for people

Hard to imagine someone overdosing on tea. :o

I will gladly 'drug' my fish if it reduces stress. As you know, Cardinals do not take well to certain things and i'd rather have calm cardinals over dead or sick cardinals.

Adding extracts from plants of all things is far more natural and less intrusive than salt imoimoimo.

I Doubt that Aqua Plus has extract concentrations that would be toxic or harmful to the Fish. I had used it for well over a year and saw no adverse affects. I discontinued using it for weekly water changes as a personal choice and shifted to using a strait dechlorinator since I felt the extracts in Aqua+ or aloe in Stress Coat were not required in my case. Chose the product that suits your needs, however, caveat emptor.
