What is your opinion on strong currents in a Malawi Tank?

I recently got a SunSun WaveMaker from China rated at 12000 L/H.

I positioned it in the top left of my tank. It is totall extreme. It pushed water all the way to the right end of my tank, then this gets pushed down the to bottom where it comes back from right to left....all the way to the left end again where it began. You can see this if there is something loose in the water.

Obviously circulation is a good thing and it is doing one hell of a job at that, but is it good for the cichlids, do they like currents?

Thinking I might sell on and get the 5000 L/H model as that will be more than sufficient.

Don't know though.

Well bro a little current wont hurt just make sure the cichlids are not hanging on for dear life.. i use powerheads with sponge attachments on all of my tanks and i have currents just not jacuzzi's plus the sponge acts as mini filters..

Hey 'bull,

I've done a rescape in my tank using ocean rock. Got it very cheap from a local supplier.

Regarding the current, this is what I've done:

I had my existing Undergravel jet system which I built when I set up the tank.

Now, in addition to this, I've built egg crate on pvc legs (tested for over a week with 120KG of weight on before going in the tank). This allowed me to keep the rocks off the bottom whilst creating big caves underneath for breeding and the beloved catfish. The jets are positioned under there to blow crap right down to the filter when it falls through the rocks. Also plant to add a 'weak' wave maker to aid this.

Anyway, this vid shows the jets, I'm still very pleased how they came out considering it cost next to nothing, including the cheap chinese powerhead:

...and the full rescape with shots of my fry tank too:

I know not everyone likes ocean rock, but I love it and that's what counts I suppose as I'm the one looking at the tank in my living room, haha.
