I bought some beautiful plants from Katelyn. Included were 2 potted plants. I put some eco-complete in both pots and took out some of the spongy stuff. Now what do I do with it? Do I set it on top of the gravel or bury the whole pot? Where is the best place to put it in the tank? Front, middle back?

Thanks!

That's not a stupid question at all. You need to remove the pot completely.. also remove all the rock wool (spongy stuff) to open up the roots and let them spread out. Then just plant the thing into your substrate from there.

If you're having a hard time getting it planted, it may help to place a few larger stones on top of the sand/gravel near the crown of the plant to hold it in place until the root system gets established.

Here's a helpful video that shows a lot about prepping plants you receive, trimming them, and how to get them planted.

no such thing as a stupid question around here! we don't learn if we don't ask.

i once bought a med/large amazon sword and it came in a plastic pot. i took it out of the pot but left all the gravel n such around the root ball and buried all that in my substrate. this sword is now more than twice it's purchase size, in less than 4 months.

keeping a plant in the pot could cause the roots to intertwine too much, and if the plant is the type that likes to send out horizontal roots then i think removing the pot and planting it directly in your substrate is the best option.

Thank you so much everyone! That video was awesome! I wish I saw it months ago lol.
