Stupid Spiral / Corkscrew Vals

I am in the same boat. I got some vals and dwarf sag from Mgamer few months back and they are both sending out runners but vals stay short as well. I acutally wouldnt mind if they stayed that short so I could plant them in the foreground, but they may just take off at some point.
I was worried about it but now am glad to hear that new runners mean the plant is healthy.

According to plantgeek.net
"Similar to Contortionist Val, but will stay slightly smaller. Does better with a nutrient rich substrate. Propagation by runners."

According to DrFoster:
The plant is a midground plant (if it was to reach 12+ inches dont think it would be a prefect midground plant)

And finally heres another thread (old) with a person with a similar issue.

And finally from personal experience..
The plant is very sensitive to moves, but once i left it alone thats when it started growing like mad, grew plenty of runners and the two mother plants themselves reached the max height of 12" for me, after that they were at a stand still with growing in height, but were still growing plenty of runners.
