you got it. put a little at a time into a bucket, fill it with water and stir it around, then dump off the cloudy water. you might have to do it a few times. Dump the clean sand into the tank, rinse, lather, repeat.

I picked up 3 50LB bags today of the mesh#20 pool filter sand. it is a brown /dark tan color came from canada
