problem with gravel is that it destroys the cory's whskers.

Im pretty sure thats it's safe for cories, as its "natural"

I would suggest Gravel. Not sand. But it's your choice.

I have my panda cories on gravel, and their barbels are at least a third again as long as they were when I bought them a year ago. I think that it's the quality (smoothness) of the substrate that matters, not so much the grain size (within reason, of course). I'd imagine that smooth gravel would be better for them than sharp sand, and smooth sand better than sharp gravel. Just my opinion, YMMV.

Smooth gravel is OK..but sand is the best.

I use gravel in my tank and my Cories' barbels are very long and healthy. So I have to disagree.

I use gravel too and no problem with the barbels this is the substrate I use.
