Sudden fish loss - please help !!

TC - I see you are in Knoxville - I know you guys got hit pretty hard with some of the recent storms. It is very likely that your water utility did something to the water. Was your area under a "boil water" order at any time? Do you test the tap water before you add it?

I would suggest doing daily partial water changes for about a week, and add some Aquarisol. Make sure you test the new water before you add it, and follow the water treatment product directions exactly - there are times when there can be too much of a good thing.

Good luck

just curious... have they been eating normally? have you noticed any of them thinner or being more reclusive? i know this sounds gross, but is their poop normal, or clear or white? any changes in behavior in general?

i know OrionGirl is much more suited to diagnose this than I, but if it's some sort of internal parasite that was introduced, would it not take some time before weakening the fish to the point where it would die? that's the only reason i ask about eating habits and behavior...

I’ll answer each of your questions here …

OG >> I’m sorry I guess I shouldn’t have used the work plenty … what I meant was that I use a sufficient amount of water conditioner as prescribed on the bottle …. I’ll have to get back to you about the specifics about what its supposed to take care of …. but it was recommended to me by my LFS and have been using it from the get-go to treat my water before I add it to the tank. To be honest, I have never really observed the fecal matter since I wasn’t aware that that could be a sign …. but I’ll observe it over the next few days and see if it looks particularly different from before.

Mamabarb>> We did get hit with quite a bit of rain from the remnants of the various hurricanes … but I have not heard of any advisory regarding boiling water. And no, I don’t typically test my tap water before I add it … I’m still quite a newbie and I didn’t know that I should be doing that. What does Aquarisol do? Is it a medication for something?

NowherMan6>> They have certainly been eating normally … whenever I’m near the tank they’re always up at the top “begging” for food … and they sure gulp it down fast! I have noticed though that my male mollies do seem to be a little skinnier lately.

Thanks to all of you for your replies !! Please keep them coming if you have some more advice. I appreciate it !!
