ok so i have had 10 yellow shrimp and 2 briggs snails in a 10 gallon tank for about 2 months. All but one of the shrimp are dead over about 3-4 hours and the brigs are not looking good. The tank was fully cycled and the ammonia and nitrite are still 0 and the nitrates are 5
nothing has been added or removed from the tank recently and i do weekly 30% water changes.

any idea what could have happened?

the remaining shrimp and the snails have been moved to a tank i had just finished cycling in anticipation of a new betta arriving

Haven't used any and i always rinse my arms in clean water before reaching into my tanks. I am realy anal about keeping my tanks healthy thats why im so confused by this

I haven't medicated that tank ever myself and ive had it running for a year (growing out fry until i switched it to inverts) it was a used tank so it could have had a copper based med used on it at some point. I have not tested for copper ever.

also not thinking it is residual copper as they all died in such a short time span.
I live above a pediatric center and my windows line up with theres so it is possible they sprayed/used something and it got sucked in my window by the fan but that doesn't seem overly likely either.

was this after a WC?

Something had to have contaminated the water surely for them to all die so suddenly together.

You say you clean your arms before reaching in the tank... could you have had soap residue on your arms?

Do you clean the exterior of the tank with windex- could some have got in the tank?

No Lysol used in the same room- or neighbouring room?

For them to all die so suddenly is odd.

I don't use soap just water to rinse my arms before working in the tanks no one sprayed anything and i didn't clean anything. all i can think of is that someone sprayed something outside and it got drawn in the window. the shrimp i moved and one of the snails look great today the other snail is still not looking good but its still alive.
