Suggest an RO/DI

Did you read the paperwork with the new unit? Does it contain a flush valve? Does it recommend flushing?

The RO waste, or "brine", as it is called in the RO realm, is supposed to be 4 times what the stuff you want, the "product", production is. If it is less then this the membrane is less effective and will soon be damaged. If the brine to product ratio is too small then precipitation occurs in the membrane that will coat and plug areas of it.

You want to put the brine line and the product line into measuring cups at the same instant. Then when the brine one reaches, say, 4 cups yank them both out. The product one should be a cup or less.
If it's a cup the restrictor is set correctly if it's way less than a cup you are wasting water. If it's more than a cup you're damaging your membrane.

Thanks! That's good information. I'm going to measure and make sure my ratios are in line.

I thought I did flush it. Maybe it wasn't done correctl? The instructions tell me that there should be no water coming out of the black tube (waste water) but that doesn't make sense. Maybe I'm goign crazy?

I will flush it, hopefully it will fix.

Something here is way wrong. You need to carefully trace the various lines thru your system. It's easy to get confused.

Be careful that you understand the various ports. The line color is not always correct.

If you understand the ports and you really are not getting any brine the restrictor may be plugged. It's often a plastic orifice/tube jammed in the tubing or brine port of the membrane housing. Remember to keep the membrane wet in a plastic bag.

It works now, I had a lot of difficult understanding but its good to go.

Glad all has worked out. Good luck to ya!

Time to combat this algae. If the R/O water doesn't help, then I am going to go crazy.

Are you running a phos reactor? I got one of these and it helped. For the first time in 20 years, I'm algae free! LOL.

I did a number of things, though. I started by getting rid of the CC substrate and replacing it with carbonate based sand. I got rid of my bio balls, bought a phos reactor, upgraded my skimmer too. Lastly, I hired on 3 nassarius and 3 cerith snails, and 6 blue legged hermits.

I had a small patch of very fine green hair algae left last week. I've been keeping an eye on it. It is now completely gone. Not a trace.

I'm pretty sure that I have had at least 7 different aglaes in the past 10 months. Most of it covered my rock and practically destroyed it. By destroyed it I mean the appearance of it. The algae I have now is Cyano and some brown type algae. But the cyano is the major problem.
