Suggestion for one more fish?????

I have a 46g bowfront cycled tank that's lightly to moderately planted, with a few peices of drifted wood, a ghost tube and a plastic decor.

It houses the following now,

1 Elephant Nose
2 ADFs
2 Redwag platys (want to get rid of these and replace with the new fish)
8 Xray Tetras
5 Otos

In future: I plan to pick up 2 German Blue Rams and 1 angel fish.

So I think I have room to add one more fish after taking the platys out (they just don't really match with the rest, and they keep trying to eat everyones food, including the e-nose and adfs).

I thought about a Gourami, but then read they need to be in groups. I'd like to get a decent sized fish, maybe around 5-6".

Hum, where did you read Gourami's need to be in groups? They are not schooling fish by any means because they can be very aggressive to their own kind. Actually, if they are male, they need to be kept separate or in a decent sized tank with lots of plant cover so they don’t fight or stress each other out. I have a single gourami in my 30g and she does beautifully, very active and curious.

I don’t know much about Elephant Nose from personal experience but I thought they got pretty large ~9” or so, had mild electric abilities and where very shy. I would not think of mixing this fish with anything remotely aggressive including any kind of cichlids, which would include angels and gourami’s. Hopefully someone else can help you out with better stocking suggestions.

first of all, gouramis dont need to be in groups, especially males, as for they will form alliances against the weakest one and kill it and then the next weakest one and so on until they is only one left.
i dont know alot about elephant nozes, but i do know that that tank may be to small for him, as im pretty sure they get an excess of 8 inches at least.
other than that, id say that that would be a good plan

give me your elephant nose! Just kidding. I really want one, but know I can't until I have time/space/money for a 75 gal or so.

yeah, don't add anything more. and you're very lucky that elephant nose hasn't eaten/shocked your other fish. he might also outgrow that tank. if I was you, i'd return him and get a gourami or a angelfish instead.
