I have a Aquaclear filter in my 10g betta tank, which shows up as black against the back of the tank. The problem is that creates kind of a mirror effect and my betta will flare up everytime he looks up at it. I tried using a black background, but that just made things worse as he started flaring up along the whole side. I did a test and put a magazine inbetween the filter and the tank, which left only a small part of the filter showing, then my betta started flaring up at that part where the magazine wasn't covering. Is there something that I can put up to block out the filter but not look too tacky? I was thinking a plant but it would be right below the filter and may bow down in the current. Any suggestions?

try getting one of those attractive photo backgrounds for your tank. that's what I have.

A plant is not a bad idea. I have a tall watersprite around my filter, and while it sways a bit, the current doesn't affect it much.

so thats why my betta was swiming at the filter and then it just pushes him down lol
