Suggestions for buying poly filter floss or a substitute?

done! bought it at wally mart world for $2.67 for 20 oz bag.

thks all for great tip.

Yeah, I've been using Wally's poly for quite a while and feel it does a better job then factory cartridges since you can put more in and spread it out better. You can't beat the cost! 3 bags last me about 4-6 months for 20 tanks.

wally's poly, lol... that's great stuff. i am a little leary myself. i picked some up a while back due to suggestions on another forum. i must just have super great luck cause things didn't go so great for me. i think the bag i got was contaminated.

stupid question... does anyone rinse or clean their wally poly (loving that phrase btw) before they use it? like is there anything special i may be considered retarded for not doing?

on a side note wally poly should be a tag for this thread. :D

Hi guys and girls. That is good to know. I had not even thought about using that and will keep it in mind.

It certifiably wouldn't hurt to rinse it, I never rinse mine because it would be harder to work with wet IMO.

Remember with respect to the batten quit if you find that its too thick or that it clogs too quickly, try splitting a single layer carefully down the middle by peeling apart than placing the frayed end against the flow of water inside the filter. I always do this now and find that it clogs way less but still does a excellent job polishing and you'll get twice as much out of a bag.
Like this photo below you only need your fingers, the scissors are for scale

yeah baby !!!!!!!!!!

I don't rinse. I simply put in as much as needed and continue to march on. When it is time to renew, I let it drain and then give it a toss into the garbage. There is a bio-degradable version that is landfill safe and cost only a fraction more. When it is on sale I snatch up as much as possible.

You will need a few tries to establish what is too little or too much. I think you will be as happy with it as we are.

ok! now that you intro'd a new version, where & how much?

I did buy the poly wally in the green bag, so I hope that was ok & I don't need to wash nor intend to do so.

will be using my 1st batch today!!

this was a great tip & along with my other posting for best value on water conditioners (someone suggested sodium thiosulfate which hands down is cheaper than any aquarium based product!!)

So lol I went to wally world to pick some of this stuff up, is eversoft the right brand you guys use?
