Suggestions for selecting breeds to sell?

I've thoroughly enjoyed sinking too much money into my aquarium addiction, but my wife however is growing a bit wary. I'd really like to reclaim some of the cash I've spent by putting some of these tanks to good use. I've got some cichlids and a couple cuckoo catfish that I was hoping to breed, but would appreciate suggestions on some good sellers to throw into the mix.

The first breed that comes to mind is discus and angels. I understand they can be a bit difficult to raise and I'm sure it would cost me a pretty penny to get started.

Are there any other fish that would be good sellers either online or to my LFS that I should look into?

Angels arent hard to breed and I'de pay good money for a pair that looks like wild angels. Discus just need extremely pure water with low PH I believe. or if you are into salt water you could easily go for clowns or cardinals or cleaner and peppermint shrimp.

If you can get some nice Gold Nugget or other Ornate Catfish to breed, you can make a mint just selling them locally. When I move (God willin') I plan on building a nice breeding setup for some GN plecos.

gaines thats kinda where i am now. i am trying to get into breeding. not only try to have the tank pay for its self a little but something new to learn. i am trying angelfish. i have done easy stuff like guppies and platies before but thats nothing really.

I do okay raising angels..I trade them to a local store for credit on supplies.

they found out I have several wild peruvian scalare..they will pay cash for any of those I can raise.

the only problem here with discus..the stores have trouble selling them ..but if you look at the fish that they carry(discus) the stock is of poor quality.

oddly I know of a breeder who is having problems selling his discus and his stock is very good and his price is very reasonable and competative(cheaper than the LFS's who all have wquestionable stock)

This may sound funny, and it's only my opinion but I think the beauty of Discus actually intimidates people. I know it did to me b4 I knew anything about them. They have kind of a saltwater beauty about them (does that sound weird?) with their magnificent coloration. When I first saw them, I thought to myself, "they're sooo beautiful, I'm sure they're hard to care for..." Like I said JMO but that could be a possible reason they don't fly off the shelves like , say, angels do. :huh:

there ia a lot of information out there about how hard discus are to raise.

but if you get them and do an extra water change or two per week they are fine.(mostly the young ones need this)

once they reach adult ..you can pretty much raise them like any other 'delicate' species.

if you are a person who is prone to not doing scheduled water changes..they are not the fish for you. discus like many other species..do best in clean water.

angels are fairly easy to raise and breed..and they are popular..if you have a good source (parents) with good colors you may be able to recoup some costs..

other cichlids(blue rams etc)
like any other business...you need to be able to create a niche in the market.

Why not actually ask the store you might wish to sell to? Perhaps they want certain species that they never get their current breeders or suppliers to give them. I knw locally chocloate gouramis are hard to get ahold of.
