Suggestions for setting up a triple tank shelf?

How tall are the shelves from one to another? I'm also looking for a multiple tank stand/rack, but I have a 29g and 20 L tank.

At least this question is easy to answer from the link: "Shelves adjust in 1 inch increments." You should be fine .

That's a great price! But 350 pounds? Isn't each of those 20L's 200 pounds on its own?

You say you have 3 20L on each of them. How is the stability? Do the tanks move when you walk? Do the tanks go directly on the wire grid?

Edit: And do you have plants and use special lighting?

its stable. its free standing. i have foam under the tank. yes all of them have plants in it. i have a 55w bulb over each of them.

Yes, you want the industrial strength version though this link doesn't specify whether it is 350 pounds per shelf or in total. For the price, my guess is in total. What a cool idea though...if I had a rack like that I would probably choose aquariums to fill it from left to right....would be really cool if you could put a glory hole in it, i.e. drill the bottom of the top two or three holes, install a standing tube and have the water spill from the upper tank down into the lower tanks...you could use a centralized filtering system that way but you would need to have some filtering in each tank as well or the tank on the bottom would quickly get all the dirty water.

maybe its on the box. i have had mine for 6 months give or take. i got my first rack from a breeder so i got it used. who knows how long he has been using it but it wasnt shiny any more. so it had to be some time. the new stand which i set up over a week ago now with 2 tanks running is fine. nothing to show and signs of stress. the only thing i wish i did was i left the bottom shelf on. it would have made it even more stable and have a shelf to put junk on.

not a big fan of centrailzed filtration. more so when breeding.

I'm assuming since MG has 3 20 longs on each that they can hold quite a big of weight in total.

it all matters how you design it. when i get home ill measure how far apart the tank and the shelfs are.

the only way i would risk a 29 gal is if it was the bottom shelf on the ground.

Okay, I just bought one of those shelves. It's 350 pounds per shelf for sure, although the wire grid is not really rigid. I have to decide which distance between shelves to use. The tank will have 8 contact points with the grid, all on the long sides. The outer contact points are very near to the short side. To give you an idea of how the tank fits on a shelf, here a shot from mostly the top (including nosy cat):

i have 6 inch between the top of the 2sd 20 gal long and the shelf above it. the bottom tank i have 10 in between the top of the tank and the shelf.

as you can see from the pic you still have a little room on the sides. one shelf i have food other nets.

She can't complain, it was her own choice . She jumped in when I got the camera from a neighboring room.

I actually have to store that empty tank covered, because she started inspecting the silicon seals and pulled at irregularities. If I don't want her to peel all silicon off, I have to protect the tank .

Wow! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one to see the potential in this type of shelving. I put my tank in the same type of shelving, and I got mine at Lowe's, too, only I got the 18˝x24˝ version and put my 30-gal cube tank on it, AND I put a board under the tank and enclosed the sides (except the tank area) with boards. The shelving is 350 lbs per shelf. I'm probably really pushing the limit on the shelf the tank is on, but it seems stable enough. I even put wheels on my shelving unit. Not that I plan to wheel the tank around on a regular basis, but if I need to move it (which I have done once already), I can drain most of the water out and move it. For an extra measure of safety, I made supports from 2x4s that go under the bottom shelf beside the wheels, because I don't 100% trust all that weight on the wheels, although they are supposed to hold 500 lbs. (Not sure if that is each or total, but I should be covered either way.)
