Suggestions on a 30 gal.?

The live sand that you get in a bag is pretty much a waste of money IMO... think about how anything is going to survive in a bag for as long as that sand is in there.

i agree. none that i have seen advertises any hitchickers, but they do advertise the bacteria. well, without any cycle or anythign to feed off of, the bacteria will eventualy die too....
you can get more sand for less money. i would recomend argonite sand.

Don't waste $ on Live Sand; get aragonite sand and TONS of LR. Put it all together and let it cycle. Hold off on livestock purchases for the first couple of months and just add a clean up crew after the tank has cycled. This will give your tank lots of time to mature.

TONS of LR and your skimmer will become less important. I added a refugium to my 30g and have about 55-60 lbs of LR. I haven't used my skimmer in months. Might be different for a reef, but that will be months away anyways.

what would you guys say about a cleanup crew? When do i add them and what should i have??

also how much salt should i have in my tanke per gallon?

A clean up crew for a 30 gal....i would suggest to start off with 10 snails, 5 red and 5 blue hermits, a cleaner shrimp or two...

Start adding you cleanup crew when you nitrates have come back down to about 10ppm..

The ammount of salt that you will need will be stated on the packaging of the salt...I use reef crystals, and i use 330g per 10 litres of water...

Get a hydrometer or refractometer and keep your SG at 1.022-1.025
