yeah I know.. it sounds odd at first...

but I keep finding my snail upside down... and in places that he couldn't possibly get to on his own...

why is this?? is the snail dying?? or trying to?

or is it just something they do???

I need a snail shrink! LOL

as for the tank.. gave it a couple days without light.. and the red slime is gone!!!

The Astrea snails are not reef snails, I have yet to find them anywhere but in the sea grass beds. Their cone shape, as you guessed at, gets them into trouble in rocky environments. Also keep in mind that suppliers will label anything "reef" as long as it came out of a warm(ish) ocean. That doesn't mean that everything lives on coral reef habitats, what about shorelines, grass beds, lagoons, marco algae shallow areas, mangrove swamps and so on? What ever is easiest to collect, which usualy means shallow and close to shore is what they grab and pawn off onto us, while recommending 180 snails go into a 150 gallon tank that is just being set up.

I think that's the problem with this guy... he's pretty big.... and now he's not coming out at all...

how do you check to see if you're snail is dead??? I know.. morbid question... should he try and close his "door" when prodded?
